ABOUT AUDI Q7

Audi Q7 is a full size 5 door SUV manufactured by Audi AG with the parent company of Volkswagen AG and assembly at Zuffenhausen, Germany; Bratislava, Slovakia. The Q7 is a modified version of the Volkswagen Group 7L platform, the 4L and is based on the Audi Pikes Peak quattro concept car, the Q7 is designed for on-road use, and was not meant for serious off-road use where a transfer case is needed.

In an off road test through the Australian outback it fared well for a “soft roader”[citation needed] but in a test published in The Sunday Times it was described as “an absolutely useless off-roader”.[1] Although it lacks a low-range transfer case, it has quattro permanent four wheel drive system with a central differential lock, and an adjustable-height air suspension which helps in off road situations. Audi even presented its hybrid for version for Q7 in the Hanover Motor Show.

FEATURES OF AUDI Q7

Audi AG has an engine of:

4.2L V8 FSI

3.6L VR6 FSI

4.2L V8 TDI

3.0L V6 TDI

6.0L V12 TDI

It has a wheel base of 118.2 inches, length of 200.2 inches, width of 78.1 inches, height of 68.3 inches and a curb weight of 4950 lb.

Also it is a full size luxury sport utility vehicle produced by German automaker Audi at the unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006. The Q in the Q7 denotes a new family of vehicles for Audi and 7 means its placement with A6 and A8.

ENGINE OF THE NEW AUDI Q7

Audi has 350 PS, 440 N•m 4163 cc V8 and 280 PS, 360 N•m V6 3596 cc petrol engines, both of which have the FSI technology. No matter what engine Q7 uses, they give the same 0 - 100 km/h performance.

There are two diesel options available namely: 240 PS, 3.0L V6 and the 4.2 litre 331 PS diesel with 760 N•m torque. It is heard that Audi will soon introduce a hybrid version of the Q7 in 2008. For the success of its diesel engined Le Mans-winning R10 racer, Audi presented a concept-version of the car with a V12 TDI Q7 at the 2006 Paris Auto Show that used piezo fuel injectors like that of the 2007 Mercedes E320 CDI. The twin-turbodiesel six-litre engine generates 500 PS and 1,000 N•m of torque that makes it the most powerful diesel engine as well as the only twelve-cylinder diesel engine in any passenger car. The diesel can pull the Q7 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

THE Q7 V12 TDI QUATTRO

The Quattro GmbH is presently under development, and will produce the most powerful diesel powered SUV in its class. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro will comprise a V12 TDI. This new diesel engine will displace 6 Litres to generate 368 kW (500 hp), and 1,000 Nm of torque, enough to complete the 0-100 km/h dash in 5.5 seconds,to make it perform like modern sports cars.

CONTROVERSIES

Nissan sued Audi for its using of the letter “Q” as a mark of their new quattro four wheel drive system used in the car production for over 25 years in 2005 as even this was Nissan’s infiniti marque for the name for sedans like the Q45 or the SUV’s of QX4 and QX56 since the year 1989. Previously, Audi had been using the umbrella sign for many of the four wheel cars. The case was settled between the two when Audi agreed to use the Q mark only for the Q7 and Q5.

SAFETY IN AUDI Q7

Audi has multiple airbags and safety electronics but still scored only 4 stars out of 5 in the Euro NCAP crash test such as ESP, Q7. According to Audi, this was due to a design error, now been fixed in cars manufactured after the tests allegedly leading it to five stars. Though, the official tests to prove this are still to be done as of November 2006. In the USA, Q7 got five stars out of five from the NHTSA safety test for both front and side impacts.

FEATURES OF THE AUDI

Q7 offers a feature called AMI meaning the Audi Music Interface that will allow you to manipulate an iPod or any MP3-style player, that can play through the main sound system. Q7 was the first Audi car offering Side Assist which is a kind of blind-spot detection and warning system.
