IGN gave:

Xbox 360 version a 9 on 10 and the PC version an 8.5 on 10,

GamePlay gave:

Xbox 360 as well as the PC version an 88 on 100,

Metacritic gave:

Xbox 360 version an 89 on 100 and the PC version an 86 on 100

Call of Duty 2 was a welL received game, with the graphics, sound, reactions to the regenerating health system being praised and mostly positive. The PC version multiplayer was criticized being a step backward from the previous game.

IGN called the game “outstanding”, “classy and well-produced” with the best graphics on the Xbox 360 at its launch.

THE CONTROVERSY

A television advertisement for Call of Duty 2 created by Los Angeles animation studio Rhythm and Hues, depicted a first-person view of events to transpire during the game than the scenes from the game itself. As a result consumers felt the advertisements as misleading due to the quality of graphics being superior to the game leading to, in February 2006 the United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority demanding the removal of these advertisements after three consumers filed complaints of false advertising.

CRACKS FOR THE GAME

Enable the console in the game’s options menu where while playing, drop the dev-console by the tilde key and input developer 1 enabling code recognition.

Enter the following codes for effects valid for version 1.0 of COD2 altered or removed from later versions. 

god … To switch the player invulnerability on or off 

give all … To give the player all the weapons 

give ammo … To give the player all current weapon ammo 

ufo … To let the player swim or fly

noclip … To let the player clip through the environment 

notarget … To make the player invisible

For the Retail Version Developer 2, enable the console through the “Main Menu” clicking on “Options” then select the “Game Options”, clicking till “Yes” is displayed. Now exit and get back to the “Main Menu” typing the tilde symbol and strike ENTER to see the console displayed. 

Input developer 2 and strike ENTER. In the bottom left corner of the “Main Menu” a new button “Load” appears where you should type the tilde symbol and hit ENTER to end the console. 

Either “Load” a saved or completed scenario/map through the “Load” button or select a mission from the “Mission Select” Menu or select “Resume Game”. Once in the map/scenario where you have picked up the weapons with which you will end the scenario and you want to use cheats, enable the console and type “give ammo” giving you full ammo. You cannot pickup any other weapons. Also you can enter any of the other cheat codes that you would under “developer 2″. 

To unlock all the levels, locate the config.cfg file in the COD2 directory to start a focused file search, open it in the Notepad and locate the “seta mis_01″ string setting the value of that string and all other “seta_mis_” lines to 10 or higher to unlock those stages on Veteran difficulty appearing like:
